What is a sleep study?
Your physician or our sleep specialists may recommend that you have an overnight Sleep Study to determine if you have a sleep disorder. A Sleep Study, also called a Polysomnogram, is a painless, non-invasive test that records your physical state during various stages of sleep. It provides data that are essential in evaluating sleep and sleep-related complaints and problems, such as identifying sleep stages, body position, blood oxygen levels, respiratory events, muscle tone, heart rate, eye movement, brain waves, amount of snoring, and general sleep behavior.
Sleep studies are performed in a Sleep Lab that is specially equipped with computerized monitoring equipment. Studies are performed at our main health campus and at the Denver Tech Center Sleep Lab
Why should I consider a sleep study?
A sleep study allows us to measure specifics about your sleep issues. A more specific diagnosis can help us prescribe a more suitable course of treatment for living a better life through better sleep. Check out our sleep disorders section to read about why a sleep study is essential for people with sleep issues, especially those with obstructive sleep apnea.
What should I bring to my sleep study?
Feel free to bring anything that will make you more comfortable. The room is equipped with a queen size bed, pillows, and blankets but if you like having your own pillow, we welcome you to bring it with. Feel free to also bring anything that you typically use to relax before bed such as a book, music, or your laptop. The room does have cable tv for your use if you prefer.
Can I have my sleep study done at home?
Absolutely! We offer both in-lab and home sleep testing. However, home sleep testing isn’t for everyone. A home sleep test, though effective, collects significantly less data than an in-lab sleep study. The initial consultation with our providers will determine if it is right for you!
How long does it take to get results from a sleep study?
Depending on your Provider, you will either be scheduled for a follow up visit or receive a phone follow up with your results. Regardless, you will receive your results within 2 weeks of your sleep study.
